The Chamber of Legislators of São Miguel Arcanjo, a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil recently honoured Mr João Gilberto Vas with a special award of recognition. Mr Vas received the unanimous award because of his important work in bringing an understanding of the BRICS community to the youth of Brazil. Mr Vas is a member of the Advisory Board of the BRICS Institute, an international think-tank devoted to boosting trade between BRICS countries.

To mark the occasion, Mr Vas donated a Number 10 Pelé jersey signed by the King of Football himself. The jersey was donated to the Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel to be raffled and the funds will donated to social causes of the Basilica.

The town of São Miguel Arcanjo will host the BRICS FOOTBALL ACADEMY, the official youth football academy of the BRICS nations. It will use the sport of football to promote understanding and enhance relationships between the BRICS countries.

The BRICS Institute congratulates Mr Vas on this important recognition of his unstinting work among the youth of Brazil.
